Pico Laser

The latest generation in laser technology for pigmentation, texture and skin clarity.

Pico Laser

What is Pico?

✔ Pico lasers represent a significant advancement over older pigment technologies like IPL and Q-switched lasers.

✔ By delivering energy in ultra-short bursts  our system treats pigmentation and texture more effectively, with greater safety for darker skin types and minimal downtime.

✔ Unlike IPL, which uses broad-spectrum light, or Q-switched lasers, which rely on longer pulse durations and heat, pico technology creates a photoacoustic effect that breaks up pigment without damaging surrounding tissue.

✔ This means faster results, improved skin texture, and a lower risk of rebound pigmentation.

Pico Laser

What It Treats

✔ Sunspots, freckles, and age spots

✔ Melasma and hormonal pigmentation

✔ Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

✔ Acne scars and pitted texture

✔ Enlarged pores

✔ Uneven skin tone

✔ Tattoo pigment

Pico Laser

How it works

The laser delivers ultra-short 450 picosecond pulses that produce a mechanical shockwave (not heat) to fragment pigment and stimulate collagen regeneration. This process, known as laser-induced optical breakdown, supports ongoing skin remodelling and textural improvement.

Compared to IPL or Q-switched lasers:

✔ More precise pigment targeting

✔ Less heat = lower risk of inflammation or hyperpigmentation

✔ Suitable for all skin tones, including Fitzpatrick IV–V

✔ Improves scars, pores, and overall skin quality

Pico Laser

Who's it for?

This treatment is ideal for:

✔ Patients with stubborn pigment or melasma.

✔ Acne scarring, textural irregularities, or dullness.

✔ Individuals seeking a safer laser option for darker skin.

✔ Those wanting visible improvement with minimal downtime.

FAQ

Why Pico at Face Doctors?

Being a doctor-led clinic, Face Doctors can offer numbing injections for tattoo removal which largely removes pain from tattoo removal. Tattoo removal is notoriously tender, but at Face Doctors this pain is largely minimised.

How is Pico Laser different from IPL?

IPL uses scattered light that targets red and brown tones superficially. Pico laser uses focused, ultra-short energy bursts that break pigment with precision and penetrate deeper. It's more suitable for complex pigment like melasma and better tolerated by darker skin tones.

Is it safe for darker skin types?

Yes. Unlike heat-based lasers, the pico laser’s mechanical energy delivery reduces the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, making it one of the safest lasers for Fitzpatrick IV–V.

Does it hurt?

Most patients describe it as a mild stinging sensation that is very tolerable. With the exception of tattoo removal, anaesthetic is usually not required.

How long before I see results?

Many patients notice initial brightening within 1–2 sessions, with pigmentation and texture gradually improving over multiple treatments.

Can it treat melasma?

Yes. While no laser offers a permanent cure for melasma, pico lasers are among the safest and most effective options available. Results are typically longer-lasting when combined with good sun protection and pigment suppression.
