Non – Surgical Rhinoplasty is a simple procedure where small amounts of dermal filler are injected carefully and strategically into the nose to improve the appearance of the nasal contours and angles.
This procedure has evolved over time to become a comparable and popular alternative to Surgical Rhinoplasty with the advancement of Dermal Filler techniques and the advent of next-generation Dermal Fillers.
In Non – Surgical rhinoplasty, goal is to make subtle, natural looking adjustments to harmoniously balance the nose with the rest of the face.
Subtle changes made in Non – Surgical Rhinoplasty can often make a dramatic difference to overall facial harmony and beauty.
How is it performed?
Small amounts of dermal filler are injected into the deep layers of the skin. It is a simple procedure that usually takes less than 30 minutes to complete with instantaneous results.
Swelling is usually minimal, however, at Face Doctors Clinic we offer free top ups at the two week mark in case the swelling has come down a touch of extra filler is needed. Face Doctors Clinic is one of the few clinics that does not charge for this.
How long will the results last for?
While it varies from person to person, the dermal fillers used can provide up to 2 years of longevity at which time a top up treatment will be needed.
Will it make my nose look bigger?
While dermal fillers do add volume to the nose, we often find that the nose looks smaller after a non-surgical nose job as it becomes more harmonious with the rest of the face.
How does it compare to surgery?
Non-surgical nose jobs have both advantages and disadvantages when compared to nose surgery.
Generally speaking, a surgical nose job offers more permanent result. However, this typically comes at the cost of a much longer recovery (often over a year to see the full result) with a more painful downtime. Those undertaking a surgical nose job will typically have to take 2 weeks off work and exercise. In comparison, non-surgical nose jobs have minimal downtime where results are more instantaneous. Patients can typically return to most activities the next day.
The cost of surgical nose jobs is significantly higher than a non-surgical nose job (in the region of 30x more expensive) so although the results last longer you will also be paying much more for it.
Surgical nose jobs are a difficult surgery with the potential for many serious and lifelong complications such as prolonged physical deformity and reduced breathing. Non-surgical nose jobs, while they have risks, tend to have lesser risk than surgery.
Surgical nose jobs are great for correcting noses that are deviated to the left or right. By comparison, a non-surgical nose job will have less ability to correct deviations.
Surgical nose jobs can be both additive and reductive while non-surgical nose jobs can only add volume. This means that larger noses may benefit more from surgery than non-surgical nose jobs.
How long does it take?
The procedure typically takes less than half an hour. In some cases, it can take as little as 5 minutes.
How painful is it?
Compared to surgery, a non-surgical nose job has minimal pain. At Face Doctors Clinic we offer ice packs and happy gas to minimise the pain of the procedure.
While some clinics will use numbing cream, this causes vasodilation (blood vessels dilating) which increases the risk of a vascular injury, vascular occlusion (blocked off blood vessels) and blindness.
How risky is a non-surgical nose job?
The nose carries some additional risks for injecting dermal fillers due to the blood vessel supply to the region. However, at Face Doctors Clinic we use techniques to maximise the safety of our injection technique. Compared to surgery, the injection of dermal fillers is much safer. For additional safety and at an additional charge, Face Doctors Clinic also offer ultrasound guidance to pre-scan the regions blood vessel supply. This allows us to map out the blood vessels in the region so we can know with more precision where they sit.
How much filler is used?
We typically use less than 1ml of filler to correct the majority of nose cases. In many cases, less than half a ml of filler can achieve a dramatic result.
When will I see results?
The results from nose fillers are instantaneous. Occasionally the nose shape will settle over the next 2 weeks as swelling subsides. Face Doctors Clinic offers a free top up at the 2 week mark for this reason.
What can be fixed with non-surgical rhinoplasty?
1) I would like to fix the hump on my nose
Humps or bumps on the bridge of the nose, known as dorsal humps, can be camouflaged with dermal filler.
Dermal Filler is carefully injected on either side of the dorsal hump to create the appearance of a straight nasal bridge.
2) The tip of my nose is droopy from the side profile
Dermal fillers can be used to rotate or upturn the tip of the nose, improving the nasolabial angle. To achieve this, dermal filler is strategically injected into the tip of the nose to create an uplifted effect.
The columella can be treated to provide support and projection to the tip. Muscle Relaxing (Anti-Wrinkle) injections can be used in conjunction to relax the downward pull of the depressor nasalis muscle which prevents the nose from drooping down on the movement.
3) The bridge of my nose is too flat or wide
Non-surgical rhinoplasty can be used to build structure and raise the nasal dorsum and radix of the nose.
Dermal filler is injected in a way that mimics the autologous grafts used in Surgical Rhinoplasty to increase the height of the nasal bridge, radix, and can create the appearance of a narrower nose from the front.
4) My nose is crooked
Crooked or asymmetric noses can be caused by trauma or hereditary factors.
Crookedness of the nose usually takes the form of a concavity on one side of the nose with or without convexity on the other side.
To correct this, Dermal Filler is injected into the concave area and to other areas as needed to create the appearance of a straighter nose. In most cases, Dermal Filler can achieve a modest to significant improvement in symmetry
Given the proximity of blood vessels to the sides of the nose and the additional risks of this area, crookedness can only be improved to a smaller extent. More deviated noses require surgical correction.
5) My nose has a dent in it
Most indentations in the nose can be significantly improved without the need for surgery. Dermal Filler is carefully injected to smooth out any indentations and refine the nasal contours.
6) I have had a Surgical Rhinoplasty but want more to improve it
Satisfaction rates after Surgical Rhinoplasty are among the lowest in facial plastic surgery. Around 10-20% of patients who have received a primary rhinoplasty will elect to undergo a revisionary rhinoplasty.
Thankfully, Non – Surgical Rhinoplasty can be performed to correct irregularities after Surgical Rhinoplasty in most cases. The anatomical changes and formation of scar tissue after Surgical Rhinoplasty make this procedure more complex than on an unoperated nose, but it is still possible to achieve a marked improvement.
Non-surgical nose job recovery
Non-surgical nose jobs often have very minimal recovery. Slight swelling is not uncommon but it is not common to have any significant bruising or swelling. Patients can continue their normal routine with the following exceptions: pressure on the nose should be avoided for at least 2 weeks (avoid heavy glasses); do not wear makeup on the nose on the day of the procedure; do not workout on the day of the procedure (before the procedure is fine).
Minor swelling or bruising may occur but this usually settles fast. Nose tip injections might also cause some redness on rare instances but this usually recovers within days.
What happens to the nose filler with time?
Nose fillers are typically reabsorbed by the body over up to 24 months. Over this time you will see the nose filler result gradually fade away. Top up is recommended when you notice the results start to noticeably reduce. Fillers might last longer in some patients than others. We have seen patients with no noticeable filler degradation at the 12 month mark.
Does non-surgical rhinoplasty leave scars?
Scars are extremely uncommon with this type of treatment. We have never had scarring from any hyaluronic acid dermal filler treatment thus far at Face Doctors Clinic.
