FAQs
Active acne (acne vulgaris) is a skin condition that occurs when oil from the skin (sebum) gets trapped within the pores, allowing bacteria to multiply in the trapped oil. It can occur when the body is making too much sebum or when dead skin cells are blocking pores from releasing the sebum. In a blackhead the oil has been exposed to oxygen which causes it to turn brown while a whitehead occurs when the oil stays completely trapped under the skin.
Our Clearskin laser is specifically made for treating all forms of acne vulgaris. It has the added benefit of being able to treat acne scars. The laser works by heating the oil beneath the skin making it easier to be sucked out of the skin by the attached vacuum. It is a procedure with lasting results, no downtime and is suitable for all skin types.
We have a range of chemical peels to specifically target acne. Medical grade salicylic acid peels are the gold standard peels for treating active acne. They are comedolytic meaning that they can slough off the dead skin cells that are blocking pores and allow the pores to become unclogged.
Chemical peels are great because you combine them in tailored treatments to address a few concerns at the same time, for example, a salicylic acid peel can be combined with a lactic acid peel to treat photo-damage and acne simultaneously.
Given our extensive knowledge on acne and skin care, we are able to offer tailored consultations to give you advice on how to best rid your acne. While in-clinic treatments can be very useful in ridding active acne, it is also very important to know how to take care of your skin to prevent acne from coming back. We offer medical grade skin care products through our Osmosis and Synergie ranges which contain the best ingredients for targeting acne. Both brands offer some of the highest quality vitamin A serums available, which are a staple in treating acne. Vitamin A is important in increasing skin turnover, so you have less old skin to block your pores. In medical formulations (some prescription only) it is also one of the best anti-aging medications available.
Other products, such as Blem X, from Synergie Skin, are specifically made to treat outbreaks by decongesting pores, exfoliating and helping to soothe irritated skin.
Synergie Skin conveniently offers a Blemish Control kit which combines many powerful products that work to prevent outbreaks, treat outbreaks and maintain healthy skin.
