Active acne (acne vulgaris) is a skin condition that occurs when oil from the skin (sebum) gets trapped within the pores, allowing bacteria to multiply in the trapped oil. It can occur when the body is making too much sebum or when dead skin cells are blocking pores from releasing the sebum. In a blackhead the oil has been exposed to oxygen which causes it to turn brown while a whitehead occurs when the oil stays completely trapped under the skin.

The laser works by heating the oil beneath the skin making it easier to be sucked out of the skin by the attached vacuum. We have a range of chemical peels to specifically target acne. Medical grade salicylic acid peels are the gold standard peels for treating active acne. They are comedolytic meaning that they can slough off the dead skin cells that are blocking pores and allow the pores to become unclogged.

Chemical peels are great because you combine them in tailored treatments to address a few concerns at the same time, for example, a salicylic acid peel can be combined with a lactic acid peel to treat photo-damage and acne simultaneously.
