FAQs
Anti-wrinkle injections all contain a purified protein that relaxes the wrinkle causing muscles resulting a smoother appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections have been used safely for many decades. In much higher doses, it has been safely used to treat medical conditions such as muscle over-activity from neurological injuries. In the cosmetic medicine, anti-wrinkle injections have many uses including: facial rejuvenation, jaw slimming, calf slimming, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) and improving neck wrinkles. In the doses used for anti-wrinkle purposes, anti-wrinkle injections have a long history of being studied in clinical trials and are considered one of the safest cosmetic medical procedures. Anti-wrinkle injections are quick, have minimal pain and usually deliver fast and noticeable results.
Anti-wrinkle injections block the messages from the nerves telling a muscle to contract. Several days after injection, you will notice it will become harder to intentionally or unintentionally contract the muscle.
Your muscle will relax, which softens the look of lines and gives you a smoother appearance.
Anti-wrinkle injections are generally considered safe. The risks and side effects are generally minor and include: mild swelling at the injection site (common), bruising at the injection site, headache, eyebrow or eyelid droop, blurred vision (rare), allergic reactions (rare), infection (rare).
Anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly used to treat frown lines, crows feet and forehead lines. More advanced techniques allow treatment of brow lifting, bunny lines, chin crease, correcting facial asymmetries, nasal flaring and gummy smile. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be injected into your jaw muscles for jaw contouring and a slimmer face.
Usually by day 3 you will notice some degree of muscle relaxation. This effect will continue to get stronger until about 3 weeks after injection. This may vary from patient to patient. Patients are encouraged to return to Face Doctors Clinic at 2 weeks for a complimentary follow-up.
While there will still be some muscle relaxation effect by 16 weeks, by this time most of the movement has returned. Many patients choose to get reinjected at the 12 week mark, at which point some movement may have returned but there is still a strong anti-wrinkle effect. However, this timeline may vary from person to person. Higher doses will typically produce a longer lasting effect. Males, exercisers and those who are more muscular may require larger and more frequent doses.
Anti-wrinkle injections are a great preventative measure, even before deeper wrinkles have formed. By treating dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that only occur with movement, regular anti-wrinkle injections can prevent them from becoming deeper wrinkles that will eventually be visible even when you are not moving the muscle.
No, anti-wrinkle injections do not freeze muscles. Poor injection technique may give someone a frozen appearance, however, this also may arise from a combination of factors including wrong placement of fillers and previous cosmetic surgeries. Anti-wrinkle injections do not have to give someone an unnatural appearance. In fact, smaller doses may still allow movement of the muscle to allow for complete facial expression without allowing a wrinkle to show or worsen.
Pricing depends on the amount of product being injected. Treating one area generally start at approximately $180 with prices dropping as more areas are treated. Consultation with a doctor is required prior to treatment. The $50 consultation fee is deducted from the cost of your anti-wrinkle injection.
Different brands of anti-wrinkle injection may have a different potency per unit. For example, one commonly available anti-wrinkle injections is 3 times less potent than others. For this reason, it is important to be mindful of prices that seem especially cheap per unit as you may actually be paying more for the same effect.
However, that being said, research demonstrates that the most commonly used anti-wrinkle injection brands in Australia should are capable of producing a similar anti-wrinkle effect and produce a result for a similar amount of time
